The communion of saints is God’s family in heaven and on earth and our
deepest vocation. Who is a “saint”? The three states of the Church: the
Church militant on earth, the Church triumphant in heaven, and the
Church suffering in purgatory. The saints in heaven pray for the saints
on earth, and we are called to communion with them. The saints on earth
are to pray for those who suffer in purgatory. The Church will reach
its perfection and full unity in the glory of heaven.
